As many of you will know, Mrs Chris Ward retires as Headteacher of St Paul’s,
Chipperfield in July after 13 years at the school.
We are placing this notice in Chipperfield News in case our invitations happen to miss you. We would like to inform you about events at the end of term when we will be paying tribute to her immense contribution to the school over the years and when there will be opportunities to join Mrs Ward and to wish her well in retirement.

COMPETITION
Yes, we’ve entered! Judging takes place unannounced any time in June or the beginning of July. St Paul’s School, the Afternoon and Evening W.I.s, Brownies, Cricket Club, St Paul’s Church and the Baptist Chapel have all been helping recently in making the village look a brighter, cleaner and better cared for place than it has appeared to be over recent months. And our Common Ranger’s regular work on the Common will from now on be supplemented in the other areas of the village by that of Michael Home, the Parish Council’s new Village Warden, who was appointed by the Parish Council to start work on May 12.
But we do need your help, too. Please make a special effort to keep your spot in the village looking trim. And if you do see any problem area, where for example, rubbish has been dumped, please do give me a call on 01923 269480. David Nobbs Parish Council Chairman

WITH MANY THANKS
I regret I am unable to reply individually to the many friends who sent cards and letters of condolence, but I wish to express my thanks and appreciation for the great kindness shown to me in my recent bereavement. Thank you.
Edith Griffin

THANK YOU
Ann, Emma, Jo & James wish to express their heartfelt thanks for the many cards, flowers and letters received after John’s sudden death. Thanks also for the floral tributes and donations made to the British Diabetic Association in memory of John. Finally, thanks to everybody for the kindness, help and support shown to our family since our tragic loss. Ann Phillips

GRANTS OFFERED FOR WILDLIFE HAVENS IN THE CHURCHYARD
Grant of up to £2,000 are being offered for rural churchyard schemes that help wildlife. The Community Development Agency for Hertfordshire says that, in partnership with the Church and Conservation Project, it is seeking to arouse interest in the value of churchyards, chapel yards and cemeteries for nature conservation throughout Hertfordshire.
It will be represented at The Festival of Creation in St Albans from June 13-15 to publicise the scheme, and looks forward to enquiries from interested communities. Gary Sage, Rural Development Officer of the CDAH, said: “Churchyards are a valuable wildlife haven. The species of flora and fauna are rich because the land is unimproved by modern agricultural practices and sympathetic management can result in an excellent sanctuary.” For more information contact Gary on 01727 852298 or Susan Clark, Rural Enterprise Officer, on 01920 822735.

YOUTH THEATRE GROUP WIN TWO TROPHIES
Chipperfield Theatre Group have done it again. This time it was Fun Factory’s turn - winning not one but two trophies at the South West Hefts Drama Festival which took place from April 28 to May 3.
Fun Factory is the youth arm of the Chipperfield Theatre Group and their first foray into festivals produced two
well-deserved awards.
Six members of the group - David Smith, Michael Wynes, Hannah Turner, Ria Scott and Amanda Clements, aided by Martyn Compton as stage manager - presented a trilogy of one-act plays based upon a ‘House of Horror’ theme, and their brilliant efforts resulted in winning first place in the youth section. Not content with that, David Smith took the trophy for best performance and Ria Scott received a nomination for best supporting performance.
The plays were directed and produced by Diane Parry and Lyn Hug, the organisers of Fun Factory, and required some unusual props - not least of which was a cradle that rocked without any visible means of doing so. Dave Turner rose to the challenge and his wonderful effort was then smashed to smithereens by his daughter Hannah as part of the plot!
Well done to all those who took part, in whatever capacity.
