A Special Year For Remberance

1st of October 2014

Once again we will gather at the War Memorial early next month to remember those from the village who gave their lives in the two World Wars of the twentieth century. The commemoration this year will be especially poignant because it is a hundred years since the outbreak of the First World War. We hope to see an especially large number of people attending the Two Minutes Silence on the common at 11am on Sunday 9 November and afterwards in St Paul’s Church. In the two weeks before that, the devoted Poppy Collectors will be calling at every house, and all the businesses of the village will be displaying their tins. All the money collected for The Royal British Legion is used to help ex-service people, many of whom have suffered for years after the conflicts of this century and the last. Chipperfield has an outstanding record for these collections for a village of its size. Please be especially generous this year.
