CPRE Hertfordshire Rural Living Awards

Supported by Hertfordshire County Council, Hertfordshire Life and the Hertfordshire Mercury.

CPRE Hertfordshire Rural Living Awards are now open for nominations. The awards aim to highlight efforts made by groups or individuals to improve life and enhance the environment in Hertfordshire’s villages and its countryside. They are judged in two categories:

Community
Projects should include one or more of the following. They should be:
conceived/fundraised for by the community
give added value to community life
have something innovative about them
used by all areas and ages of the community
bring the community together
vibrant
provide for continuity
Examples: community-owned/community-run shop or pub; Community-run minibus/taxi service/car pool; Good Neighbours Scheme; adopt-a-granny; Community-run Festival/Event; Volunteer management of a Community Hall/Community Service

Environment
Projects should include one or more of the following. They should
promote access to the countryside
celebrate Hertfordshire’s landscapes
enhance the countryside for all to enjoy
have something innovative about them
promote local food/food production
have potential for further development
provide for continuity and be environmentally friendly
Examples: creating footpaths/improving access to existing footpaths; scheme giving urban dwellers access to the countryside; photography or art project which celebrates Hertfordshire countryside; campaign to protect a valued local area from inappropriate development; volunteer litter-picking group; pub/restaurant/shop sourcing locally grown foods; community orchard

Rural Living Champion Awards
There are also two individual awards. The Dorothy Abel Smith Award is for a young person aged up to 18 who has made an outstanding contribution to rural living. The Peterkin Award is for an adult who has made an outstanding contribution to rural living

Who can enter?
Individuals or groups can nominate their own, or someone else’s project.
The deadline is 30 May. Judging takes place from June to September.
