Chipperfield Horticultural Society – AGM Report

1st of March 2014

Thursday 6 February
In spite of the weather, this was very well attended. In the absence of our President, Valerie Briselden, who was unfortunately unable to be with us due to ill health, the meeting was taken by our Chairman Sue Tyler. Our Vice President, Terry Simmonds, and all members of the committee were in attendance. The Chairman opened the evening by welcoming everyone and by thanking them and all our helpers for their support throughout the year; it is very much appreciated. Our Treasurer, Jane Whittles, gave her report, showing a healthy profit on all our shows, outings and talks held in 2013. Our Show Secretary, Maria Coote, gave a report on all our shows. The spring show, due to the weather, had only a small amount of spring flowers but this was more than made up in the other sections by all the other exhibits that were presented. As the weather improved and became hotter and hotter, the summer show was full of fantastic sweet peas and roses; their scent was wonderful. As the good weather continued, the autumn show had the most marvellous exhibits of dahlias and chrysanthemums. The vegetables were incredible and their judge commented that they were far superior to the exhibits in a large county show he had recently judged. In fact, all the exhibits were outstanding. An election of officers and committee members took place, all willing to stand for a further year. Richard Edwards, who for about 20 years has been our Independent Honorary Examiner, was standing down and a presentation was made to him with our grateful thanks for all that he has done for the Society. Chris Pinney has kindly volunteered to take his place. The meeting closed at 8.30pm followed by cheese and wine.
The date of the 2015 AGM is Thursday 5 February at 7.30pm
Ann Soanes Secretary
