1st Chipperfield Brownies

1st of February 2014

What a wonderful year it has been! We have welcomed twelve new Brownies since January 2013. Here are some of the fun activities which stood out during the year.
The girls worked hard to gain various badges: Crime Prevention, Friend to animals, and Agility. The girls joined with the rest of Kings Langley District to go to the Moonlighters of Abbots Langley Aladdin Pantomime and enjoyed various activities to celebrate Thinking Day. The girls attended Mothering Sunday service and made beautiful flower arrangements for their mums. We had a scavenger hunt and outdoor games and made party hats for our end of Summer term non-uniform disco. The Brownies had great fun learning to do street dancing; Abbots Langley Guides visited us to work for Go For It challenges; we made fireworks collages and ended the term with a Christmas Carol Concert and raffle, raising a brilliant £72.00 for Royal Brompton Hospital where my husband had a heart operation in September. The Super Brownie of the Year was Hannah Rickard; well done, very well deserved.

The main highlight of the year was the Pack Holiday. Seventeen girls enjoyed a fun-packed three days, 2-4 August, at The Willow Tree Centre, Harefield. The theme was Teddy Bears with all leaders/helpers changing their names to the various characters during our stay!

The girls had great fun helping to cook the meals, waitressing and cleaning the Pack Holiday home. Our craft activities included tie-dying t-shirts, decorating bags and money boxes. We also enjoyed a treasure hunt, outdoor games, film night and a pyjama party. 3rd Kings Langley Brownies also joined us for an afternoon of fun. The girls gained badges: Brownie Holiday, Craft, Cook, Home Skills and Toymaker. Everyone worked really well together and we had a great time. Thank you to all my helpers who made this holiday so special.

During the holiday I gave points to the girls for being helpful, kind, friendly etc. The Pack Holiday Super Brownie was Ella; well done. Everyone received an award, eg Pack Holiday Mother Hen (for looking after the little ones), happiest Brownie, most helpful Brownie and Pack Holiday chatterbox!

My thanks go to my wonderful team of assistant leaders and all who gave their time to support the Brownies in gaining their various badges and trying new activities.
My Unit is full at the moment but if you would like to put your daughter’s name on the waiting list, please visit www.girlguiding.org.uk/interested. Similarly, if you are interested in giving some time to Girlguiding UK and would like a really rewarding experience in working with girls aged 5-14, please go to the website

Thank you, Sian Roberts, Brown Owl
