The Big If Campaign

1st of September 2013

Two hundred organisations supporting the campaign and the church service in Westminster on 8 June was a real success and absolutely full to overflowing. In addition over 45,000 people came to the Hyde Park meeting.

Our incredible support for the IF campaign means we’ve taken a step forward for the 1 in 8 people living with hunger worldwide. The progress made on child nutrition will save the lives of 1.7 million children. The campaign ensured that malnutrition, the unfair tax system and land grabs were at the centre of the G8. This is something we can be proud of.

At the IF campaign we didn’t get everything we wanted on tax and transparency – but now tax havens have to sign up to new rules on sharing information they hold with developing countries; something which has, up until now, been kept secret for centuries. There is also a new deal on exchanging information on tax that would allow developing countries to recover the money they are owed, in order to invest in preventing hunger and malnutrition. But the hard work doesn’t end here – we need to ensure these promises are kept on malnutrition, so stay tuned!

Thanks to you, we convinced George Osborne to keep his promise on meeting 0.7% for life-saving aid.  Thanks to you, the UK government tripled their spending on nutrition. Thanks to you, we showed how much we care. Campaigning works when we join together to demand an end to the silent scandal of hunger. Thank you for your prayers and support.
