Midsummer Music Medley

1st of July 2013

The 66th Season of concerts by Chipperfield Choral Society concluded on 8 June in St Paul’s Church, filled to capacity. The choir, conducted by their Musical Director Delia Meehan, gave some fine renderings of songs and choruses from opera and the stage accompanied beautifully by Rosemary Venner on piano and keyboard with percussion by Malcolm Ball and Sudhir Singh (double bass). The evening opened with songs from ‘Cats’ and went on to Verdi’s Anvil Chorus and the chorus of the Hebrew Slaves, Haanera from Bizet’s ‘Carmen’, Mascagni’s ‘Easter Hymn’ and music by Handel and Purcell. Chipperfield’s Rosemary Clifford was the soloist and she thrilled the audience with her stunning performance of ‘Memory’, arias by Mozart and Johann Strauss II, and songs by Cole Porter. Rosemary has now completed her course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and is very busy singing with Grange Park Opera, amongst others. The evening concluded with Rosemary singing ‘Wouldn’t it be loverly?’ Terry Simmonds
