As another cricket season closes, it is a good time to review how Chipperfield Clarendon C.C. fared. Following promotion, the Saturday 1st XI more than held their own in Division 2 of the Saracens Hertfordshire Cricket League and hope to push on next season. The 2nd XI, having struggled for the last couple of years in Division 4, had a much better season and at one point were flirting with the promotion pack.
After promotion last year, the 3rd XI had a disappointing season and were relegated back to Division 8. Player availability suffered towards the end of the season and this had an unfortunate effect on the 4th XI, who were in the upper reaches of Division 13 until they had to concede some matches as they were unable to field a suitable side.
The Sunday 1st XI had a great season in the Chess Valley league, losing only two matches all season, whilst gaining promotion to Division 3. The Sunday 2nd XI, playing above their level, struggled and will fare better in Division 7 next season.
The season saw the colts section continue to improve, due in no small part to the efforts of Chris Bangs and Mike Brammer. The club has great hopes for the colts and expects to attract even more young cricketers to winter nets and to play next season.
The club always welcomes new members playing or purely social. For information go to the club website, www.chipperfieldclarendoncc.co.uk
