Roman Catholic Church
Preparation for receiving the sacraments used to be done in school. Today it is the
responsibility of the Parish which explains the overcrowding in our car park as classes
are shoehorned between masses. Sue and her three assistants who do the teaching, the
parents who do the ferrying and the children who do the learning, had their reward at
the first Communions on 15 and 22 May. The splitting of the event was to
accommodate the number of relatives who came to celebrate with the children for
whom First Communion is the beginning of an active life of faith, strengthened and
nourished by the Eucharist every Sunday at Mass.
On Fr. Terry’s computer is a most encouraging message with photographs from the
Children’s Cancer Hospital in Dar es Salaam. After three years struggle the children’s
institute has been moved into the new complex at the Muhimbili National Hospital.
The new wards, named ‘Love’ and ‘Hope’, are clean, bright and beautiful, decorated
to please the children. As well as their own dedicated team, additional nurses, a team
of fantastic doctors and all the facilities of the hospital are available to them. Already the children’s chances of survival have improved.
Personal contacts such as this between our Church and Dr. Trish (known to the
children for whom she cares as Dr. Twishi) encourages giving.
The next fund raising is the Golf Day at Shendish Manor on 10 June.
