On Tuesday 5 April Ray Leaney from Chipperfield and John Dicks from Kings Langley were among two hundred people invited to the Imperial War Museum at Duxford to be presented with the Pingat Jasa Malaysia Medal, PJM. The ceremony was led by Brigadier Othman Jamal of the Malaysian Armed services. Accompanying them were their wives, Chris and Margaret.
The PJM is available, on application, to all servicemen and women who were stationed on the Malay peninsular from 31 August 1957 until 12 August 1966 and is for British and Commonwealth troops that helped in the fight against the communist terrorists during the Malaya emergency and during the Indonesian confrontation. More than 21,000 of these medals have been presented to British, Australian, New Zealand and Fijian veterans.
Ray and John applied for the decoration when details were first circulated in 2006.
