The Kings Langley Community Choir received a resounding reception for PRIMO!
from a packed auditorium which included the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Mrs Gillian
Chapman, and the Chair of Kings Langley Parish Council, Councillor Robert McLean.
Held on 18 March in Kings Langley Community Centre, this was the Choir’s first full
concert in the village.
The forty strong choir included songs by Crosby Stills and Nash, the Mama’s N Papa’s
and the Beach Boys as well as traditional hymns and folk songs. Musical Director,
Verity Standen, informed the audience of the vocal stylistic influences in many of her
arrangements, and this was in evidence after the interval in the performances of Heart
and Pearl and two numbers composed by Helen Chadwick. The second half included
an African hymn, a chant from Georgia, and Blackbird by The Unthanks. The evening
finished with a rousing gospel number, Ride on King Jesus.
The enthusiastic audience response and the strong support for PRIMO! from local
businesses has given the choir encouragement that this will be the forerunner to future
concerts in the village as well as possible invitations to perform elsewhere.
