Roman Catholic Church
The ‘Women’s World Day of Prayer’ was held at our church. Welcoming us, Fr. Terry pointed out how appropriate to come into a church dedicated to ‘Our Lady most blessed of all women’ for this event. As well as broadening our concerns, when we join in the prayers and words chosen by the women of each nation, this year the women of Chile, the actual co-operation and fund of goodwill surrounding the ‘Women’s World Day’ is a wonderful example of the churches working together as one. No wonder there was a suggestion that other gatherings be encouraged.
This year the top class from St Paul’s school joined us. The children were attentive and had learned all the hymns! We enjoyed their presence and appreciated the planning which had made it possible. By a happy coincidence, seven of the youngsters were members of our Sunday School preparing to receive the Sacraments.
Lent begins with Mass at which there is the traditional imposition of ashes, after all it is called Ash Wednesday. We are invited to attend ‘faith sharing’ discussions on Mondays during Lent, as well as being encouraged to observe the normal Lenten practices of self-denial and alms giving. Then we can look forward to Easter.
