Jenny Laurie writes: Whilst recently visiting the mountainside near the Alpine resort of Villars, I found myself beside a very familiar tree. Yes, it was a huge gnarled specimen of the same veteran sweet chestnut tree that we have on Chipperfield Common. The Swiss specimen was an impressive tree but had it not been for the important trees on our doorstep and my involvement in surveying them with Colin Chambers, Dacorum Woodland Manager, and the Friends of Chipperfield Common, I would not have been nearly so excited.
