Christmas Bells

1st of February 2011

Chipperfield Choral Society’s Christmas Concert, Christmas Bells, was presented in two performances to a packed St Paul’s church on 11 December. A highlight of the Christmas season for well over half a century, this season’s concert was no exception and was well enjoyed by all who were fortunate to attend. The choir performed a selection of Christmas music including, A Babe is Born (Mathias), People, Look East (Rose), The Present Song (Manning) and Love Came Down at Christmas (Rutter). Chipperfield’s young soprano Rosie Clifford sang several solos including In the Bleak Midwinter (Harold Darke)’. Tim Norton recited passages by Christina Rosetti and Pam Ayres and narrated a stunning arrangement of The Twelve Days of Christmas by Edward Watson with the choir accompanied by percussion provided by Miranda Fern. Rosemary Venner played the piano accompaniment. Musical Director Delia Meehan conducted some of the music and Alan Taylor conducted the remainder including a performance of his new carol, Christmas Bells. At the organ Nicholas King accompanied choir and audience in six of the most well loved traditional Christmas carols to complete yet another wonderful concert.

On the following evening carols were sung by torchlight on Chipperfield Common by Chipperfield folk and children from St Paul’s School choir.

St Paul’s church was filled on a very snowy Sunday 18 December for the traditional service of Nine Lessons and Carols with music conducted by Keith Beniston.
