Chipperfield Women In World War 2

1st of February 2011

Women were to play a vital role in World War 2. Although they did not go into combat, their contribution through the WRENS, WAAF and ATS was pivotal in the outcome of the war. They still faced real danger on the anti-aircraft batteries and required skill and concentration operating radar equipment, just a couple of the varied tasks they carried out. This month we have the names of some of the women of Chipperfield who served in World War 2. What did they do? Can you tell us about other serving village women who are not listed here?
Violet Beattie, née Andrews, Audrey Cutler, Betty George, Dora Keen, A. Todd, W.Voller, E. Wingfield, R. Woods.
Your help with any details, however small, would be appreciated, especially the names and telephone numbers of a relative. If you are able to assist with information, contacts or photos, please do get in touch. Last month’s star helper was Geoff Baldwin who gave us several clues which enabled Andrew to elicit much further information through the internet.
