Wi News

1st of November 2010

Bill Manning with his dog, Laya, came to the Afternoon WI to explain and demonstrate the training and work of the Dogs for the Deaf charity. It was a very interesting talk, which brought home the plight of deaf people and the joy these dogs bring them.

In August, members of the Evening WI enjoyed a Safari Supper, small groups visiting different members homes for the main course and dessert and all joining together for coffee at the close.  Thanks to all hostesses who worked so hard to make the evening a success.

At the September meeting, due to the non-arrival of the expected speaker from Waitrose, the President led members in a discussion to ascertain views on their WI and its future.

Both WI’s will be holding their Annual Meetings this month; the Afternoon WI on Tuesday 16 November at 2.15pm in the Village Hall and the Evening WI on Wednesday 17 November at 7.30pm in the Small Hall.

The WI is helping to publicise the National Domestic Violence Helpline. Many women are unaware that there is a 24-hour free phone support line for women experiencing violence and abuse, or for anyone worried that a friend or family member may need help.
The (free) number is 0808 2000 247.
