A Choral Concert

1st of November 2010

St Paul’s Church was the venue for a wonderful Choral Concert on Sunday 3 October. Church Organist and Musical Director, Keith Beniston, took up the baton to conduct the St Paul’s Choir with additional singers and soloists whilst the organ was played for the evening by John Wyatt.
The concert opened with a superb performance of Handel’s great Coronation Anthem, Zadock the Priest. Then followed two items from Haydn’s Creation with Rosie Clifford providing the soprano solo. Laura Rose and David Gladstone had assembled a fine balanced orchestra for the evening and this provided a tuneful interlude with Duncan’s March from the Little Suite, better known as the theme from Dr Finlay’s Casebook. Then followed a moving performance of Pie Jesu from The Requiem by Andrew Lloyd Webber. The concert concluded with four movements from Rutter’s Psalmfest performed by the choir, soloists Mark Denza and Rose Clifford, and various instruments of the orchestra, including horns and oboe. Highlight of the evening must be the pleasure of hearing the voice of Chipperfield’s young Rosie Clifford which just gets better and better all the time, plus a good orchestra and the choir in fine voice. What a very enjoyable evening! Terry Simmonds
