1st of July 2010

We are sad to report the death on 31 May of Kath Ray who lived for many years at Ridge View, Whippendell Farm. Our sympathy goes to her husband Ron, daughters Debra and Caroline and to all the family.

ALL 4’s ENDURANCE Charity Motorcyle Ride. The ride, which covered the four compass points of the UK mainland and 2,500 miles on the May Bank Holiday weekend, raised approximately £12,000 for Help for Heroes, a charity which helps wounded and maimed forces personnel returning from Afghanistan. Those taking part returned on Monday morning accompanied by other riders who met them on the main road into Oxford and received a rousing welcome and lunch at Harley Davidson’s. It is hoped that this will raise awareness of people to the needs of our injured forces. Phil Harpley, who organised the ride, was unable to take part as he sustained serious injuries in an accident a fortnight before but was there in his wheelchair to welcome the others back. Well done everyone!

CHIPPERFIELD BOWLS CLUB PRESENTATION DINNER 7 May.
Jack Gilbert had been a lifetime member of the Bowls Club. My dear dad, who died six months ago, always tried to tell people to come along and support the club as members had dropped. So Graham Skinner carried on in Jack’s place with Jack’s bowls. Graham said Jack’s luck had rubbed off on him as he was bowling great. Graham Skinner was presented with the John Prestwich trophy for being an outstanding newcomer to the bowls club. He accepted it with great pride and respect on Jack’s behalf. Jack was a wonderful dad, granddad and friend.
