Chipperfield Corinthians Football Club
The 2009/2010 season has now reached the end and both first team and reserves finished really well.
The first team under the leadership of Derek Hall finished 5th out of 16 in the Herts County Premier Division which is a very creditable performance following the promotion achieved last season and was the highest end of season place since 1993/4. They won 14, drew 5 and lost 11 of their 30 league games and a strong finish saw them only lose once in the last 9 games. One of the most challenging aspects this season was not being able to field a settled side, so taking this into account to finish so highly was a great effort. Possibly the highlight was a great away win at Wormley who ended up missing out on winning the league by two points.
The second team under the leadership of Jason Ward & Peter Dent had a tremendous season and finished runners up and gained promotion so they will be playing in the Division One for reserve teams next season. They won 13, drew 5 and only lost 4 out of their 22 league games. Like the first team, a strong finish was crucial with them only losing 2 out of the last 11 games.
The season ended with the traditional end of season dinner & dance where the following all won awards:
The Ron Denham Trophy for 1st Team Managers Player of the Year – Darren Gardiner
1st Team Players Player of the Year – Charlie Hurlock & Paul Lowe
Reserve Team Managers Player of the Year – Mark Parfitt
Reserve Team Players Player of the Year – Roy Danks
Supporters Player of the Year – Paul Lowe
The Nick Walsh Trophy for Young Player of the Year – Craig Redgewell
Golden Boot – Charlie Hurlock (with 26 goals)
Goal of the Season – Graham Small (35 yard free-kick vs Park Street)
Despite the bad weather the pitch held up really well and is a testimony to the hard work put in by Malcolm Durrant and Dave Dyment. Behind the scenes, Steve Hall continued working tirelessly for the club as Chairman – well done guys.
The club have their own website and once the season starts again you can follow the progress of both teams and get details of matches – site details are as follows:
Despite the highs through the season there was some sadness with the untimely death of Ron Denham late last year. Ron had been a major influence in the club for many years and has been and will be greatly missed.
