Richard Cox
Chipperfield lost one of its great Sporting Legends when Richard Cox, known to all as ‘Joe’, sadly and unexpectedly passed away on 10 March at the age of 70. Born and raised in Chipperfield, Joe honed his sporting skills at the daily sessions on The Common with all the other local lads of his time. He went on to captain the Cricket Club through some of their most successful years, scoring over 25,000 runs with 24 centuries, and became one of the most respected local cricketers of his day during his 35 year playing career. His time at the Football Club was no less successful, skippering the club to 7 consecutive league titles and a host of cup triumphs to put Chipperfield firmly in the sporting headlines during the 60′s, 70′s and 80′s. Thanks for all those great memories Joe.
The Football and Cricket clubs extend their deepest sympathies to Carol, his wife of over 43 years, his children Alison, Andrew and Claire and all their respective families, to Joe’s mother, Betty, his sisters and brother.
