Chipperfield Horticultutal Summer Show – Saturday 19 June
Our summer show in the Village Hall is always a wonderful display of colour and scent as there are numerous classes for both sweet peas and roses. Other flowers such as delphiniums, sweet williams, pansies, pinks, fuchsias and carnations all have their own classes as do pot plants. Classes for fruit and vegetables, such as strawberries, raspberries and other soft fruits: broad beans, beetroot, cabbages, potatoes, peas and many many more. Floral art is always popular and this year there are three classes and six classes in the domestic section plus one class for eggs from any domestic fowl. The handicraft section is growing fast and has obtained a very high standard, with classes for painting, knitting, embroidery, sewing, canvaswork, woodwork and soft furnishing, with a separate class for anything other than the above. The junior section has 4 classes, 2 for each age group: up to 10 years and 11 – 16 years. Finally the photography section with 3 classes entitled: Roses: Sport: Country Scene: Maximum size print 7” x 5” they may be mounted but not framed.
Staging takes place the previous evening by arrangement and on Saturday morning between 8am until 12 noon. Judging than occurs and the doors re-open at 2.30pm and this is followed by prize-giving at 3.30pm. Entry forms are in our schedule and the completed forms can be given to any committee member, to Garden Scene and also Stanley Stores by 2pm the day before the show. An auction of produce, a raffle and a delicious tea are all on offer in the afternoon. All in all a most enjoyable day for everyone.
