Maureen Morton

1st of March 2010

Maureen (Wallington) was born at Sarratt, one of four children. She attended the village school and Durrants School in Croxley. Her nickname was Billie. She married Mike Morton in 1957 and following the birth of their son, Adrian, the family moved to Chipperfield when the houses were built in Croft Meadow.
Maureen enjoyed watching sport and was an active supporter of Adrian’s hobbies. She would often watch him play cricket on the common with Mike, Uncle Ray and Sally, the dog.
In 1985 Maureen underwent heart surgery. She recovered well but tragedy hit the family when Adrian died the following year aged 27, just one year after his marriage to Jenny. After this devastating blow Maureen and Mike bought a caravan at St Osyths, near Clacton, where they enjoyed spending their time. Whilst staying there Mike died suddenly in 1997 . With the help of many friends and neighbours Maureen found the strength to carry on with her life. She attended many clubs and made lots of friends. Just before Christmas Maureen moved into a residential home, where she felt safe and secure, but sadly died soon afterwards at Watford G.H on 13 January, aged 76.
Jenny, her daughter-in-law, would like to thank all those who attended her funeral and she would have liked the opportunity to have spoken to more of Maureen’s friends. A special thank you to Jason for the lovely service and also to those who provided and served refreshments afterwards. A huge thank you to everyone who kindly contributed to the collection for Harefield Hospital. The road collection was £180 and with that from the Chapel totalled over £500 which is a magnificent sum. Finally, my heartfelt thanks go to her friends and neighbours who supported Maureen over many years. You made a huge difference to her life.

I noticed it said in the memorial letter that it said you would have liked the opportunity to have talked to some of her friends.
