War Memorial
The War Memorial on Chipperfield Common has been scheduled for some much needed restoration. Through the combined efforts of the British Legion and the Parish Council, a grant has been obtained from the War Memorial Trust for half the cost of the work; the other half is funded by the Parish Council.
An experienced conservation firm has been appointed and, weather permitting, the work started before Christmas will be completed during January. The brief was to remove and reduce the algal and lichen growth and to sympathetically clean the stone where possible. Of prime importance is to improve the legibility of the names carved into the stone, so that we maintain a fitting memorial to the men of the village who lost their lives during the two world wars.
