Chipperfield Conservation Area Appraisal

1st of February 2010 - comments

The following notice refers to a significant draft document, which describes in detail the village’s character and how it can be protected. The Parish Council would encourage villagers to access the document and submit appropriate comments.

At the heart of Chipperfield lies the Green, and with the Church, Cricket Ground, The Two Brewers and School clustered around it, has all the ingredients of a quintessential English Village. Preserving and enhancing its character is a key reason for having designated it as a Conservation Area forty years ago. But Chipperfield is more complex than this and the Conservation Area itself extends to other parts of the Village such as Queen Street, The Street, the Chapel Croft Area and Dunny Lane. Each of these areas has a distinctive character, and a new Character Appraisal aims to define the particular qualities of all these areas. This is to ensure that new developments and changes respect the special features that underpin Chipperfield’s unique character and justify its designation.
The Appraisal, the third in a series that will be produced by the Council’s Conservation and Design Team, confirms and explains the Borough Council’s commitment to Conservation Areas. Chipperfield Parish Council has already commented on the draft. You can now have your say on the appraisal from 1 to 28 February.
The draft document can be viewed at www.dacorum.gov.uk/planning.
