The organisers of this year’s Autumn show in Chipperfield were very pleased with the number of exhibits, 243, and the very high standard of them all. On such a glorious sunny day, a record number of visitors came in the afternoon to admire everything displayed on the tables and to enjoy a wonderful cream tea. The hall was full of colour and the Dahlia trophy had a very worthy winner in John Hopkins, who was also celebrating his ruby wedding anniversary. The floral art was of the highest standard as was the handicraft section, which had classes from paintings to woodwork and soft furnishings. The domestic section has an equally high standard and this year was no exception. All three classes for photography attracted good entries and the standard seems to just get better and better with each show. The flowers and plants looked wonderful and were slightly dwarfed by the winner of the Pumpkin class, which was truly enormous. The weather this year had helped produce outstanding vegetables, which drew a huge variety of entries. As Frank Venables was abroad on business, it was left to his wife, Linda, to bring the entries to the Hall, winning over 20 first prizes. The afternoon closed with an auction of the produce and a raffle. All in all it was a great success and enjoyed by exhibitors and visitors alike. The prizes were presented by Richard Edwards, the Village Hall Chairman. Our Show Secretary, Roger Pigg, had organised this show to his usual high standard and our thanks go to him and everyone who helped make this show such a success. Ann Soanes
