Evening Wi

2nd of September 2009

Members have been busy with the knitting needles making bonnets and blankets for the Premature Baby Unit at Watford Hospital. Daphne Tyler, from the Unit, read a letter of appreciation and also received further donations of the tiny articles.
Terry Tyler (Daphne’s husband) then spoke to the meeting about Sarratt Watercress Farm which has been in his family since the time of his great grandfather in 1886. The watercress is grown totally naturally, no artificial products are used, and he supplies many local shops and businesses.
Another speaker was Sonia Waterton on ‘Life on the Wicked Stage’. She introduced her talk with a song and spoke of her 60 years experience on the amateur stage with the Hemel Operatic and Dramatic Society. Sonia spoke with humour about the total lack of glamour, interspersing her talk with songs from some of the shows in which she had appeared.
Barbara Owen returned to the village to give amusing tips to the Evening WI on how to save time by being organised and having frequently-used items close to hand, whether in the kitchen or elsewhere in the home. She also advised having a list to note items to be accomplished in order of priority, and by acting upon thoughts straight away, therefore not forgetting. Her motto is ‘Heaven is organisation with a Minute to spare’.
