Margaret Elizabeth Jenkins

Margaret was born on the 18 July 1920 in Hampstead, London. She met her future husband George Jenkins when she was 17 and they married in 1941. In 1950 Margaret and George, their two children Terence and Marilyn along with Margaret’s Mum and Dad moved out to Chorleywood which was then very rural, especially after London. Margaret went to work as a cook at Russell Primary School and after a few years became head cook. She stayed there until her retirement and clocked up about thirty years of service. People still remember her dinners; she was a very good cook. In 1970 Margaret and George moved to Chipperfield enjoying many happy years in this lovely village. After George died in 1986 Margaret went to do voluntary work with the WRVS in Rickmansworth putting her talent to work again by cooking for the meals on wheels team. Margaret also became an active member of the WI Market in Bovingdon and found great pleasure in the meetings, the friendship and the commitment to the Market and only gave up cooking for them when her health and time took its toll. She was however still to be found on a Saturday morning in the Market taking her turn at ‘controlling’ and helping with the orders.
Margaret took great pleasure in her two children and her four grandchildren and was enormously proud of them all. She was also blessed with four lovely great grandchildren, three of whom she knew and loved, and the newest one, Sophie Mae White, who only came into this world a few days before Margaret left it. Margaret was a dear kind lady who was always ready to help, always ready to listen. She had made so many good friends over the years and it was testament to how highly she was thought of that the church was full for her Memorial Service on 20 February.
The memory of her will be kept alive in our hearts; she will be with us through our memories of her presence, her humour, her indomitable spirit and her love of family and friends. God Bless.
