Chipperfield Corinthians Still Top
Chipperfield Corinthians Football Clubs good start to the season has continued into the new year. At the start of March Chipperfield Corinthians headed the top of Division One by eleven points and looked well placed for promotion back to the Premier Division of the Herts Senior County League. They were also in the quarter finals of the Aubrey Cup on 7 March which they won 5-0 (goals by Chris Corney and Ben Picton). The semi final will be played on Saturday 11 April at Chipperfield, 3pm kick off.
Chipperfield did have a dodgy patch in November when they lost their only two league games. Since then, weather permitting, they have won all seven league games which include two wins against Sarratt. The first game at Sarratt was a 1-0 win with the return game at Queen Street a 2-1 win. Despite the bad weather in 2009 our groundsmen must be congratulated on all the hard work that goes into maintaining one of the best surfaces in the league. Just before Christmas, Chipperfield Corinthians met Tring Athletic in the St Marys cup, the most prestigious cup in West Herts played by the most senior amateur clubs in the area. Tring Athletic play in the Premier Division of the South Midlands league which is three divisions higher than Chipperfield. Chipperfield played some excellent football and made it an exciting and entertaining game only for Tring to run out as 4-2 winners. The Chipperfield goals came from an Alan Lowe penalty and Graham Small.
This club would like to thank First Team sponsors Joywheel, CJ Wren and is looking for a sponsor for the Reserve Team as well as new sponsors to put an advertising board around the pitch. The club only survives on member subscriptions, Parish grants, sponsorship and fundraising.
The club has good links with the Junior club with several players playing for the senior side. This season we are sharing their training session at Parmiters school and all are welcome to join. This is on Wednesday evenings 8-9pm.
