The parish dinner, held in Fr Des memory, was a great success – both socially and financially. A rolling succession of photographs during the evening reminded us of the many events during Fr. Des time in Chipperfield. As well as the good food and enjoyable company, over £1000 was collected for Fr. Des favourite charities.
Another successful event was the Christmas party given for the children of the parish. This was equally enjoyable but much noisier!
We are being well looked after by the Salvatorians, most often by Fr. Jan but also by Fr. Bernard while Fr. Jan was in Poland or needed elsewhere. We have been most grateful but look forward to Fr. Terry Cantwells return from Tanzania. Perhaps in another month?
While the Priests house is not occupied full-time, it was decided to have it re-decorated. A local decorator, George Loosely, started work. While clearing and dismantling, so as to make a good job of it, he took down a stack of empty baskets from the top of a cupboard. There on top, he discovered the collection from midnight Mass, “safely” hidden and overlooked. The Church Treasurer was delighted by both the money and the decorators honesty.
