Paper Pioneers
Paper Pioneers, a new book published by Dacorum Heritage Trust, tells the many stories associated with paper manufacture, from the ancient Chinese and Egyptian papyrus to the first machines in the world, set up at Frogmore and Two Waters Mills. It also highlights John Dickinson’s at Apsley, Nash, Home Park and Croxley Mills and the British Paper Company at Frogmore, now the home of the Apsley Paper Trail Visitor Centre. Fourdrinier steam papermaking machinery is also featured as well as fire engines from the paper mills.
The book is well produced, A5 sized, 100 pages, and amply illustrated with full colour images. Edited by Denis Miles and written by Joan and Roger Hands, it is available from the Dacorum Heritage Trust’s Museum Store at Berkhamsted, price £6.95 plus post and packing, (www.dacorumheritage.org.uk) or from David Doyle’s Estate Agents in Boxmoor.
